Elon University students eligible to receive CARES Act funds

Eligible students can receive emergency financial aid grants from the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act. The CARES Act, which is part of the national response to financial impact due to the coronavirus, provided Elon University with over $2.9 million in federal aid, half of which is required to be used for emergency student relief.

With 4,100 students living on campus, Elon is asking everyone to move their belongings out of the dorms by May 31. Despite stay-at-home orders still in effect in much of the country the university is asking on-campus residents to make arrangements on their own to get their belongings.

Salvation Coffee gives back to healthcare workers while supporting local businesses

Salvation Coffee established a pay it forward fund that collects money to go toward free drinks for healthcare workers. The coffee shop is selling "Burlington Strong" T-shirts and all of the proceeds go toward the fund.

Elon students from New York adjust to life in the US’ coronavirus epicenter

The state of New York, which is home to approximately 530 students is the epicenter of the coronavirus in the U.S. According to Johns Hopkins University, as of April 27, there are about 290,000 cases in the state.

Alamance County schools to continue distance learning after Gov. Roy Cooper closes schools for the remainder of the academic year

In an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19, Gov. Roy Cooper closed all K-12 public schools in the state for the rest of the school year. Schools have been using  distance learning to continue teaching since Cooper announced the first school closings in mid-March.

NC extends stay-at-home order, as county officials hope for regional approach to reopening

Gov. Roy Cooper issued an executive order extending North Carolina’s stay-at-home order effective through May 8, in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, which is also known as COVID-19. The original order was set to expire on April 29.
