Florence study abroad program sees increased enrollment

According to Bill Burress, director of study abroad at Elon University, programs like Florence, Italy have seen an increase in enrollment because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a normal semester, Burress said programs are limited to no more than 80 students, but this year, that’s changed.

According to Bilal Ghandour, assistant professor of psychology, understanding the mental health behind student-athletes, especially in American sports, focuses on the outcome of the sport — winning or losing. The result of a game, practice or test can lead to mental and physical health issues in athletes.

Elon University students have one week to submit flu vaccination records before Phoenix card deactivation, disenrollment

SGA members heard the flu vaccination update from Dean of Students Jana Lynn Patterson during a Student Government Association meeting on Thursday, in addition to hearing from Vice President for Strategic Initiatives Jeff Stein, who informed students there would be a clinic on campus after Thanksgiving for students to receive booster shots of the Pfizer-BioTech COVID-19 vaccine.

Elon University alumni to return in-person after last year’s virtual reunion

Elon University’s Homecoming and Reunion Weekend will be held fully in-person from Nov. 5 to 7. After last year’s Homecoming celebration was virtual because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the university is expecting roughly 2,000 alumni to return to campus.

Eniris Riddick, the interim executive director of FaithAction International House, was working in her office last week when she received a phone call from a construction worker saying he was unable to work because of COVID-19. The construction worker was distraught and needed help — he and his family were in jeopardy of being evicted from their home.

According to data released by the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education at Tufts University, 74% of Elon University students cast a ballot in the 2020 election. This number is above the national average of 66% of college students nationally.

With five out of five town of Elon precincts reported in, there were 1,172 total votes for the Elon Board of Alderman Election. There were 623 votes for Bourland, 522 for Orwig and 27 write-in ballots on election day.
