Elon women’s lacrosse bounced from CAA quarterfinals

Elon women’s lacrosse, now 9-4, is out of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament after losing to the No. 5 seed Towson University Tigers, now 11-7, in the quarterfinals. The Phoenix, seeded No. 4, fell behind early and were unable to mount a rally against the Tigers, who controlled the game throughout.

‘Unlearn’ grapples with racism in Alamance County

In the wake of George Floyd’s murder by a white police officer last May, Toni Autry used her social media platforms to create the film “Unlearn: The Consequences of Racism.” In partnership with co-director Martin Buchanan and producer Alex Klein, the film aims to capture the fight for racial justice in Alamance County through interviews with county residents and activists.

No rest for women’s track and field after CAA championship win

The women’s track and field team is on a high after the team’s 17.5-point victory at the Colonial Athletic Association championship win this past weekend. The championship win, the Phoenix’s third of the past seven seasons, will now give some members of the team the opportunity to continue into the postseason.

Elon alumni and family transform 150-year-old farm into wedding venue

Murchison Farm has been in the Cockerham family since 1876. Located in pastoral Alamance County, the farm holds the beloved memories of the Cockerham's. Robin Murchison-Cockerham and her family decided to turn Sytz Rickert’s wish of being married on the farm into a reality, marking the start of the family's journey to transform the farm into the wedding venue it is today: Hayfield at Murchison Farm.

With the regular season now complete, the Elon women’s lacrosse team is turning its attention to this week’s Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Lacrosse tournament. The Phoenix are the No. 4 seed in the CAA Tournament and will play No. 5 seed Towson University on Wednesday, May 5 in the quarterfinals.

Arborists like Wendy Williams and Cameron Holmes are helping to protect and preserve plant and tree life on campus, especially after former president Leo Lambert designated Elon as a botanical garden in 2004. Williams and Holmes both hope their knowledge and upkeep of Elon’s plant life will help oak trees and other plants to continue to provide a canopy of greenery on campus for many years to come.

Taking a recess, how Elon Law adapted to a hybrid learning environment

Elon Law has faced many challenges in its transition to an online learning environment, including switching classes to a hybrid model, preparing students for a virtual bar exam and making adjustments to its student mentor program. Elon Law implemented a hybrid format for classes throughout the 2020-21 academic year. Students can attend classes either in person or online, depending on their preference.

Occupy Graham demonstrators gather for a second night to protest shooting of Andrew Brown Jr.

Occupy Graham demonstrators gathered at Sequential Park, commonly called Wyatt Outlaw Park, this evening for their bi-weekly demonstration. The demonstration was held to protest the decision by Elizabeth City sheriff’s deputies and a judge not to release the body camera footage from the shooting of Andrew Brown Jr., as well as the arrest of two protesters in Graham yesterday.

Elon women’s soccer falls in first round of NCAA tournament

Elon women's soccer’s first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 1999 is over. The Phoenix lost 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA tournament to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. By the end of the first half, Elon women’s soccer was deadlocked at a score of 0-0 against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers.

New mural hopes to drive business to downtown Burlington

An explosion of colors, shapes and patterns facing Spring Street, Gina Franco’s mural “Dance it Out” is the latest effort by the Burlington Downtown Corporation to cultivate a more creative community and economic growth in Downtown Burlington. The nonprofit organization contracted by the city of Burlington put out a call for mural artists.
