Elon University dance team places second in NDA championship

The Elon University dance team earned second place in the hip hop Division I category at the National Dance Alliance national championship. Earlier this week the team got third place in the pom Division I category. Elon placed second overall in the hip hop Division I category with a final performance score of 94.6286 falling six tenths of a point behind Utah Valley State University.

Elon University dance team earns third place in pom, qualifies for hip hop final

The Elon University dance team is looking to become back to back National Dance Alliance national champions in the Division I hip hop category. The team will head into tomorrow morning's finals session seeded first overall with a performance score of 94. Before the hip hop prelims session the team got third place overall in the pom Division I category. This is the second year in a row Elon has taken home third place in pom Division I.

Caleb King shares tales from 16 years in Rwanda to Elon University audience

Dr. Caleb King gave Elon University a look into his 16 years in Rwanda as he delivered the 2023 James P. Elder Lecture on Thursday. In 2003, King and his wife Louise King brought their family to Rwanda after being invited to work in the community. In his 16 years away from the States, he had helped build hospitals, churches and bring electricity to the community.

Extra Enforcement: Elon University sees more parking regulation across campus

The sun is still rising as Kim Farmer begins roaming the streets of Elon University in his security car. As students, faculty and staff roll into their parking spots around campus for the day, Farmer makes sure that everyone is following campus parking rules. As a university traffic officer, Farmer mainly drives around the south side of campus, checking  faculty parking along East Lebanon Avenue, Historic Neighborhood lots and other areas when needed.

Elon University Moseley Student Center closes sections due to flooding

A rusted pipe in the second floor universal bathroom of the Moseley Student Center caused chaos Thursday afternoon when water flooded out of the bathroom. The water flooded the bathroom and upstairs hallway including inside the Center for Leadership office for about fifteen minutes until maintenance could shut the pipe off. The water came down from the second floor onto the first through the elevator, which is now out of use. Moseley Student Center released a statement that if anyone needs the elevator, front desk workers will call a provided number to start the elevator.

Elon University requires health insurance information before class registration

Students who have not yet opted out or enrolled in Elon's new Student Blue health insurance plan will be prevented from registering for their fall 2023 classes until they have completed the health agreement form. This form acknowledges that students should either upload their current information or be automatically enrolled in Student Blue. Flags will begin going up on OnTrack accounts and students have until tuition bills are sent July 1 to waive out or pay the insurance bill cost.

Elon University hosts Special Olympics Alamance County Spring Games

Elon University hosted the 2023 Special Olympics Alamance County Spring Games for the first time since the pandemic, bringing together children with disabilities and making them all feel like winners. Elon sophomore Elizabeth Price is the special events coordinator for Elon volunteers and said the hometown version of the event opened her eyes. She said she was excited to be able to be a big part of the Special Olympics that Elon hosts as soon as she got here.

Christian, Muslim community members break-fast together in interfaith iftar event

Muslim, Hindi and Christian Elon University students and community members broke their fasts Tuesday evening. The interfaith celebration of Muslim iftar was organized by the Truitt Center for Religious Life and the Global Neighborhood in collaboration with the Burlington Masjid, Alamance County’s only mosque. While eating, the religious communities reflected on their faith together.

Elon University professor, Iraqi native wants to return home

A car bomb exploded in Baghdad, Iraq — targeting a government official. Elon professor of communication design Ahmed Fadaam could see the smoke from his front door. He grabbed his camera and drove through his neighborhood, following the smoke. When he arrived at the scene of the explosion, he remembered seeing dead bodies everywhere. This was 20 years ago, but Fadaam remembers the details clearly. Fadaam was a photojournalist for the news organization Agence France-Presse and went to work, taking photos of the explosion. Seeing him with a camera, the Iraqi soldiers grew skeptical of Fadaam.

Elon University to honor Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with CREDE events

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is officially observed in the United States during the month of May. Throughout the month of April, Elon University will celebrate the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans with a variety of events and activities hosted by the Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education.

Elon University baseball upsets No. 2 Wake Forest in thriller

Latham Park was filled under the lights on Tuesday as the Elon University baseball team delivered a 5-3 upset victory against the No. 2 Wake Forest University Demon Deacons. This victory was the highest ranked win for the Phoenix since it defeated No. 1 Clemson in 2002. It also marked the highest ranked opponent Elon has ever beaten at home, and the program’s first home victory against Wake Forest since 2012.
