Disabilities Resources continues to provide aid amid pandemic

The abrupt changes brought on by the pandemic have highlighted the importance of Elon’s Disabilities Resources Office to disabled students. Susan Wise, director of Disabilities Resources at Elon University, said that she and her three-person staff worked to ensure consistency in accommodations to those who relied on its support during the pandemic.

Chloe Yoon wins SGA executive vice president runoff election

Chloe Yoon has been elected as executive vice president of Elon University’s Student Government Association. Yoon, a junior secondary english education major, won by 67% of the vote in the runoff election. 975 votes were cast in the election. Yoon’s campaign was centered around diversity, equity and inclusion, which was highlighted by her campaign slogan, “affirming that everyone at Elon can bELONg.”

Elon University set to distribute COVID-19 vaccines this Saturday

Elon University will begin administering Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines to students, faculty and staff on campus this Saturday by appointment, according to an email sent to those eligible to receive the vaccine. Any faculty and staff working in person or students with a qualifying medical condition have been notified if they are eligible to sign up for the vaccine.

Alternative spring breaks provided service opportunity for students

The five programs moved from a week-long experience to one weekend and took place in Burlington, Greensboro and Chapel Hill. All programs were less than one hour away from campus and were free for all participants. The school also required all participants to confirm a negative COVID-19 PCR test within a week of the program taking place.

2 Elon juniors vie for SGA executive vice president in runoff election

Elon juniors Chloe Yoon and Ireland Horan are continuing their campaigns for executive vice president after no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in last week’s election. For the first time in five years, two candidates for an executive position on Elon’s Student Government Association are participating in a runoff election.

Women Influencers in Sport aims to inspire, empower and connect

Women Influencers in Sport, or WINS, is teaching Elon’s young women confidence and career skills necessary to become successful in the sports industry. Their primary focus is educating young women about what it is like to go into the male-dominated sports industry while empowering them to use their voice to its fullest potential.

FEMA-supported COVID-19 vaccine clinics open in Alamance County

Two COVID-19 vaccine clinics have opened in Alamance County in an effort to vaccinate marginalized communities in the area. CityGate Dream Center and Eric Lane where JR Cigars is, are now COVID-19 vaccination sites, as of March 19. The clinics are meant to address disparities in COVID-19 vaccination rates specifically in the Latino community, but also in other populations of color.

Jack Corby is elected Elon student body president

Jack Corby has been elected as executive president of Elon University’s Student Government Association. Other elected members of the executive board include Caroline Penfield ‘22 as executive treasurer and Hailey Jurgens ‘22 as executive secretary, two races that were uncontested. For executive vice president, there will be a runoff election between Chloe Yoon ‘22  and Ireland Horan ‘22.

Musical teaches intersection of race and womanhood

“The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin” taught cast members the joy that can be found in tough moments and taught the community the joy that can be made in new experiences. The musical is a semi-autobiographical musical about Viveca Stanton, a Black girl growing up in 1960s California. The show follows her through three decades as she grows up and tries to make it on Broadway, all while combating prejudice and industry stereotyping.

Some Alamance County, North Carolina residents face food insecurity

March 2021 marks the one year anniversary of the pandemic, yet as it continues with food insecurity rates on the rise, many food banks and pantries are weary of the strain the past year has put on food resources and volunteers and staff. Food insecurity — the lack of access, at times, to sufficient amounts of food for a healthy life for all household members — has been an issue in North Carolina prior to the pandemic.

Elon students vie for SGA executive vice president

Three candidates vie for the executive vice presidential spot in Elon University's Student Government Association, with juniors Chloe Yoon and Ireland Horan and sophomore Trevor Molin running for the position. The executive vice president serves as the speaker of the senate and only votes on legislation in the case of a tie. They can also call any special meetings of the senate, and appoint senators to senate committees, as well as committee chairs.

Elon juniors face off in SGA executive president election

Elon juniors Jack Corby and Daniel Dorociak began their campaigns earlier this week in the first fully virtual race for the top spot in the Student Government Association — executive president. Corby currently serves as the class of 2022 secretary while Dorociak serves as the class of 2022 vice president.
