Twin Lakes Retirement Community vaccinates staff and residents

Twin Lakes has been able to administer over 800 doses of the vaccine. All but one of the residents in their Memory Care facility, a state-certified program for adults with dementia, are now fully vaccinated. Prior to their appointment, the administration completes the scheduling, forms and screenings for the residents.

Elon football prepares for spring season

Elon University’s football team is coming off of a long break and is ready to approach this spring season. Although weather and practice schedules are different, head coach Tony Trisciani said the team’s goals remain the same: win one game per week, win the Colonial Athletic Association Championship and compete for a national championship.

Elon University students and staff members express what they expect of the final candidate for director of campus safety and police. Some members of the university community want the new director to establish relationships with different communities across campus.The yearlong search is coming to close after final candidate Joe LeMire presented to students, faculty and staff on campus.

Vital Signs a cappella group to host their seventh annual Make-A-Wish benefit concert

Vital Signs’ annual Make-A-Wish benefit concert will visually be different, but still showcase their talent and philanthropic work. The concert will be streamed on YouTube premiere Friday at 7 p.m. Members of the a cappella group said they will put on a show that will “feel like a concert,” but through a screen. This year's theme is "Spread the Love" as the concert takes place days before Valentine's Day.

Elon School of Education has hosted ‘white caucus’ since fall, now faces backlash

Elon University’s School of Education planned to host, for the second semester in a row, a “white caucus” for “white-identifying” education majors or minors. As of Feb. 10, the program has been canceled. The program, which had the goal to explore race and systemic oppression in education, comes after a summer of protests against racial injustice.

Elon University narrows down 2021 commencement plans

The school has announced three potential formats for commencement: a fully virtual option with no in-person gatherings, an in-person ceremony with a limited number of guests that would be live-streamed and an in-person ceremony for students only that would be live-streamed for all others. A final decision for the format is expected to be announced no later than March 26.

Elon alumni find work while theaters remain dark

During a time where live theatre is at a standstill, Broadway professionals and Elon alumni have taken to television acting and even Tik Tok to continue their careers. One alumnus J.J.  Niemann starred in “Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical” which has raised over $2 million for The Actor’s Fund, a charity that supports workers in the performing arts and entertainment industries.

Elon students weigh staying home for spring semester

The academic experience — all-nighters in the library, lab experiments, class field trips and connecting with professors during office hours — are all aspects of in-person instruction that have been redesigned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, students are adjusting to an online learning environment as virtual instruction has become widely prevalent in the education process over the past 11 months.
