Elon hosts flu shot clinics as winter months approach

Elon University has begun to offer clinics around campus to provide students access to a flu shot. The Campus Recreation and Wellness Center has organized flu shot clinics during the months of October and November. According to an email from Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley, students will not be allowed onto campus for Winter Term or the Spring 2020 semester unless they provide documentation that they received a flu vaccine.

Club fencing struggles with COVID guidelines

Despite Elon University providing recommendations to keep club sports on campus safe, one sport — club fencing — decided to suspend their operations right away. Will Holzman, senior and club fencing president, cited multiple reasons for why the club thought it was best to not hold a season.

Board of Aldermen consider university proposal to close East Haggard Avenue

Elon University President Connie Book addressed the Board of Aldermen regarding a university proposal to temporarily close East Haggard Ave at the agenda setting meeting on Monday. The proposal submitted by the university suggested using the street to increase outdoor space for recreational and educational purposes. Book also said safety concerns are another reason to close the street.

OPINION: Elon's response to the Trump convoy is woefully inadequate

A convoy of trucks adorned with Confederate flags and Trump 2020 paraphernalia drove through Elon's campus.This isn’t an uncommon sight to see on our campus; trucks circle Elon University constantly and harass women and people of color. Usually there’s only one at a time. That Saturday, there were well over 200 — and it was terrifying.

Elon University moves down to Moderate Alert level

Elon University has moved back down to Level 2 — Moderate Alert, according to an email from Jeff Stein, chair of the Ready & Resilient committee. The university had been in the High Alert Level since Sept. 21, after an outbreak in cases that caused the university to increase two alert levels in four days.

In June 2019, Brigette Hedvat '20 launched UENVI with her sister, Adrienne Hedvat, who is now a senior at Elon University. UENVI is a sustainable lifestyle company that makes an array of one-of-a-kind pieces ranging from t-shirts to swimwear.

Los estudiantes de Ciencias de la Salud aprenden español para sus futuras carreras profesionales

Existía la posibilidad de que las clases de conversación para profesionales de la salud no se llevaran a cabo este año debido a la pandemia. Sin embargo, el programa de fisioterapia decidió continuar con las clases después de que Nan Yang, una estudiante de fisioterapia y la representante de diversidad, equidad e inclusión de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud de la Universidad de Elon, dijo que los estudiantes sintieron que este programa debería estar disponible, incluso si tuviera que hacerse de forma remota.

Health Science students learn Spanish for prospective careers

There was a chance the Conversational Spanish for Health Care Professionals classes were not going to happen this year due to the pandemic. However, the Physical Therapy program decided to continue with the classes after Nan Yang, a physical therapy student and the diversity, equity and inclusion representative of Elon University’s School of Health Sciences said that students felt this program should be available, even if it had to be done remotely.

Homecoming goes virtual this year to keep community safe

The events hosted this year will range from virtual tours around campus to a town hall with President Connie Book. According to the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving, Brian Feeley, the university is going to be using Zoom for most events, but will also take advantage of video reporting.

Guide to absentee voting in Alamance County, North Carolina

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, election officials have considered many aspects of voting to ensure safe elections in 2020, according to Benjamin Ansbacher, chairman of the Alamance County Board of Elections. Ansbacher spoke with Elon News Network and offered what he believes students need to know about absentee voting and mail-in ballots in North Carolina for Election Day 2020.

SGA hosts fireside chat with President Book to discuss student concerns

On Wednesday evening, Elon University’s Student Government Association hosted a fireside chat featuring President Connie Book with questions moderated by Vice President for Student Life Jon Dooley. Throughout the chat, Book answered pre-submitted questions as well as live questions from student government representatives and other Elon community members.
