Elon University appoints first chief diversity officer

Randy Williams began his work at Elon University as a presidential fellow in 2014 working with the multicultural center, now known as the Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education. Williams became the associate vice president for campus engagement following his role as a presidential fellow. His experience as associate vice president allowed Williams to work with both academic affairs and student life before he shifted to being associate vice president for inclusive excellence and civic engagement in 2019.

COVID-19 affects abroad travel plans for students

Most international travel during fall semester has been canceled under the university’s reopening plan, except for the business dual degree program. Students in the program spend two years on campus and two years at a partner business school in Germany, Spain, France or Italy. At the end of four years, students receive a degree from both Elon and their institution abroad.

Elon University to search for new chief financial officer

Months after the departure of Bob Shea, Elon University’s previous chief financial officer, a search committee has begun the lengthy process to name a new vice president of business, finance and technology. The committee will be led by Jen Platania, associate dean of the Love School of Business, and Jim Piatt, vice president of university advancement.

Elon University to enforce COVID-19 policy violations

As Elon University returns to in-person instruction, students and staff are bracing themselves to enforce accountability within the Elon community during a global pandemic. COVID-19 guidelines will be enforced through the student conduct, with some schools within the university having specific guidelines.

Elon senior hired as interim video and graphics coordinator for athletics

When senior Peter Fortunato first picked up a camera during his internship with the Durham Bulls, it would start a years-long journey that got him to be the new interim video and graphics coordinator for the Elon University athletic department. After working for Elon Athletics - which is under a hiring freeze due to the coronavirus pandemic - for three years as an assistant to the video coordinator, he has been promoted to the leader as the new interim video and graphics coordinator.

Elon athletics will honor scholarships despite fall sports season suspension

Despite the postponement of the fall sports season, student-athletes who have an athletic scholarship at Elon University will maintain their scholarships. According to Clay Hassard, senior associate director of athletics for administration, compliance and campus relations, athletics will be following the NCAA regulations regarding sports and athletes impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Concerns over Elon Trustee, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy mount amid changes to USPS

Elon University faculty and alumni are raising concerns over the actions of the Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and the threat these actions could pose to the presidential election in the coming months. DeJoy has overseen budget cuts and temporary slowdowns in postal operations, as well as the reorganization of leadership and the removal of mailboxes and mail sorting machines.

Athlete speaks about experience with coronavirus fallout

Before Elon University postponed all fall sports via their website, the athletic community received an email from athletic director, Dave Blank. Blank broke the news to the athletes that they would not be having a season this fall, and hoped they would be able to resume come the spring of 2021.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, being closer than six feet to someone for 15 minutes or more puts you at risk for getting COVID-19. Elon University physician Dr. Ginette Archinal discusses ways to limit the spread of the virus.
