Phoenix fall short against Huskies

The Elon University Phoenix (12-12) fell to the Northeastern University Huskies (11-13) on Sunday afternoon’s game, 69-45. This game was the annual Play-4-Kay game, an event stemming from the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The foundation honors former Elon women's basketball head coach Kay Yow, who passed away from breast cancer in 2009. The foundation raises money for not only breast cancer patients but all forms of cancer.

Venessa Corbett's jersey retired

History was made in the Schar Center on Sunday afternoon as the first ever Elon female jersey was retired. Venessa Corbett’s No. 55 jersey was lifted into the wings of the Phoenix’s home arena. Corbett is the Elon all-time leader in points with 2,430. Corbett also holds records in field goals per game, and rebounds per game.

The push for bail reform in Alamance County

Alamance and surrounding counties have been debating bail reform for the last 20 years, and Caldwell — who’s running on a bail and criminal justice reform platform — is one of the many advocates who have been through the criminal justice system and now uses their second chance to push for a change in policies for the system they use to be in.

It’s easy to be overwhelmed by all the evil in the world and feel helpless to stop it. As young college students, we are relatively powerless beyond campus. As a student on the generally predictable campus of Elon University, I take pride in still being connected to the “real” world through news and social media.

Men's basketball gets its reason to smile on senior day

The Elon University Phoenix (10-18) defeated the Drexel Dragons (13-14) in the Phoenix final home game of the season, 75-70. The game also marked this year’s senior day, as the Phoenix honored two graduating members, Seth Fuller and Marcus Sheffield II. Fuller was part of the starting lineup for the first time this season and only the sixth time in his career.

Elon baseball tops Delaware State

After a convincing 16-4 victory the previous night, Elon University baseball (2-0) beat Delaware State University (0-2) in game two of the three-game set. The Phoenix victory secures a series win on opening weekend.

Baseball dominates in season opener

The Elon University Phoenix baseball team (1-0) opened up its season with a bang against the Delaware State University Hornets (0-1), winning 16-4 in the first of a three-game series. The Phoenix are coming off of a successful previous season, making it all the way to conference championships before falling to the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Blue Hens end Phoenix hot streak

Elon University men's basketball (9-18, 5-9 CAA) fell to the No. 2 ranked team in the conference, the University of Delaware Blue Hens (18-7, 9-4 CAA) 81-75 on Thursday night. The Phoenix looked to continue a three-game win streak, but fell short down the stretch.

SGA passes bill to replace Safe Rides with Uber

In the first phase of the pilot program beginning after Spring Break, students will get two discounted Uber rides to anywhere geographically close to campus. It will replicate the range of Safe Rides, with off-campus housing along with Crest and Danieley included.

Early primary voting begins across North Carolina

The North Carolina primary is here. Voters can indicate their preference for their party’s candidate. For voters looking to participate prior to the primary date, early voting is an alternative solution. This process has been known to decrease lines and encourage voter participation. Any person looking to participate must be registered to vote in the state of North Carolina, no photo ID is required.
