For the eighth time in eleven years, multiple Elon baseball players heard their name called during to 2018 Major League Baseball Draft, held in Secaucus, New Jersey from June 4 through June 6.

Softball star and NC native makes history

Kara Shutt '18 was drafted in the 12th round (pick 48 overall) by moh-BEEL! USA. The outfielder being drafted marked a historic moment in Elon history. Shutt is the female student-athlete to be drafted to a professional league.

Burlington’s Food Co-Op is officially closing

BURLINGTON — After seven years in operation, Company Shops Market: Burlington's Food Co-Op have announced they will be officially closing on Sunday, May 27. The market located in downtown Burlington on East Front Street, 10 minutes from Elon's campus, sold a variety of organic and sustainably grown produce.

A look at the Love Graham Arts Festival

GRAHAM — Dancers, painters and puppies filled the heart of Graham during the first "Love Graham Arts Festival." The festival was hosted from May 19 to 20 by the Co|Operative and the Independent Artist Movement. Together the two organizations brought in more than a dozen artists from Alamance County to showcase their art.

New four-year engineering program to open this fall

A new engineering program and degree are being offered at Elon University. The College of Arts & Sciences will be expanding its engineering options next fall, from a dual-degree program to a four-year program. This will allow students to stay at Elon and pursue their degree in engineering.

'We live by the ways of the South': Confederate Memorial Day service held in Graham

GRAHAM — A prayer for the dead opened the Confederate Memorial Day Service hosted by a southern rights organization, Alamance County Taking Back Alamance County (ACTBAC).  The event took place May 10 at the memorial in front of Alamance County’s District Judge building, 7 miles from Elon University’s campus. The memorial was erected to honor those from Alamance County that have died fighting in U.S. conflicts.

Loy Center rock, painted for Alpha Kappa Alpha, vandalized

On Sunday, April 6, the rock in front the Loy Center, which was painted salmon pink and apple green in honor of the Omicron Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s new members presentation, was defaced. Someone unknown to the sorority spray painted over its layer of paint on the rock and scrawled the word “nut.”
