Campaigning for Alamance County Commissioner: Anthony Pierce hopes to improve public health and safety in Alamance’s education system

Anthony Pierce is running for the position of Alamance County commissioner in the Nov 8 midterm elections . He once ran for the position in 2020 as a first-time candidate, but was unsuccessful and came in fourth place during the primaries. Now, he is running again as the only Democrat against Republican candidates, Craig Turner and Steve Carter, for a seat on the all-Republican board.

Campaigning for ABSS Board of Education: Charles Parker hopes to enhance school safety, recruit and retain teachers and improve communication and transparency

As a North Carolina native, husband of 23 years, father to three children and scientist and laboratory director at Duke University, Charles Parker said he is running for the Alamance-Burlington School System’s Board of Education to enhance school safety, improve communication and transparency from schools to the community, recruit and retain teachers and address learning loss caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Campaigning for Alamance County Clerk for Superior Court: Meredith Edwards hopes to continue improving customer service, information efficiency and transition to e-filing system

Meredith Edwards is a Republican and is running uncontested for her second term as Alamance County Clerk for Superior Court. Having been first elected in 2018, Edwards said she has worked for the last four years to grow and improve the clerk’s office to better serve the citizens of Alamance County.

North Carolina Student Legislature empowers students to shape state politics

The North Carolina Student Legislature is a nonprofit organization that gives students firsthand experience of the legislative process at Elon University. Through debates, students enhance their public speaking skills and work on real-world policy ideas. Junior Eva Farmer, who serves as the vice president of Elon’s NCSL, explained that members bring resolutions to meetings — written proposals for new laws or changes to existing ones — sparking debates among the group.  Every Monday, NCSL holds meetings where members propose resolutions on various topics, ranging from education to abortion and other pressing issues.

Women’s basketball player looks to build off successful freshman campaign

Within team environments, there has to be a leader to step up to the task. Sophomore Maraja Pass said she hopes to step up to the role this season. Pass, coming off of an extremely strong freshman season, found herself on the Coastal Athletic Association All-Rookie team. She also earned three CAA Rookie of the Week honors. The 5-foot-4 guard averaged 8.6 points per game, along with 4.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists across 30 games played. She led all CAA freshmen in assists. She found her career high in points in a game against Marshall last December where she notched 21 points for the Phoenix.
