Troutman, Koch named to All-SoCon team

Elon University senior forward Lucas Troutman and senior guard Sebastian Koch each garnered All-Southern Conference honors for their play this past season. Troutman, who averages 16.1 points per game, was named to the All-SoCon Team selected by the coaches and First Team All-SoCon by the media.

Confidence shines during Elon winning streak

With 9.8 seconds remaining in its Feb. 9 game against Georgia Southern University, the Elon University men’s basketball team trailed by two points. With one heroic heave, senior guard Jack Isenbarger turned what would have been a disappointing home loss to an 11-13 Georgia Southern team into pandemonium inside Alumni Gym.  Isenbarger’s shot dropped through the net, giving Elon a 60-59 lead with less than a second remaining and stretching its winning streak to four games, its longest of the season. Alumni Gym has long been a tough place to play for Elon opponents.  The buzzer-beating win improved Elon’s record to 5-0 at home in Southern Conference games this season.  Incredibly, it’s been over a year since the Phoenix last lost a home game in conference to a team other than Davidson College. Defense pushes Elon past UNCG on cold shooting night

ELON – It wasn’t the prettiest of games, but Elon University found a way to win. In a poor shooting night for both teams, the Phoenix had to rely on its defense to seal what became a 72-66 victory over the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Elon made just 2 of 20 three-point attempts and none in the second half, finishing the night at a 40.3 percent clip (25 of 62) from the field.

Elon uses peer institution as a benchmark, has one mutual peer

Elon has 15 peer institutions and 47 colleges and universities chose Elon as one of its peers, according to data from the National Center for Education Statistics’ Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. Yet, none of Elon’s peers deemed Elon as one its peers, as of data from IPEDS for 2022-23. Many colleges and universities have not updated their peer institutions since then, with the exception of Furman University, where Elon is now one of its peers, according to its website. Elon selected its peers in 2022, Jason Husser, chair of Elon’s Long Range Planning Committee, said.

Elon University men’s basketball coach returns to alma mater, captures historic victory

When Elon University men’s basketball head coach Billy Taylor arrived at Purcell Pavilion for the team’s Nov. 22 matchup against Notre Dame, he led the team through the back garage door — walking through the tunnel like all visiting teams do when they come to play the Fighting Irish. But as Taylor walked through the tunnel, he noticed his old locker room on his right — the locker room that had held his jersey, shoes and all the gear he needed for the four years he spent playing for the Irish in the 1990s.
