Campaigning for Alamance County Commissioner: Steve Carter runs for reelection for Alamance County Board of Commissioners

Steve Carter is seeking reelection in the 2022 Alamance County Board of Commissioners race and is the winner of the primary election. Carter received 6,431 ballots, which is 33.88% of the votes.

Campaigning for US House of Representatives: Ashley Ward hopes to address climate change, access to education

For district four congressional candidate Ashley Ward, being elected to congress would not just be a personal victory. If elected, she will be able to bring her specific expertise in climate change to the Congress floor. While Ward said it would be a great honor to bring climate change to the forefront, she wishes someone with climate expertise had been elected earlier and brought climate issues to the congress floor.

Elon University’s SGA holds last business meeting of the semester

During Elon University’s Student Government Association May 5 business meeting, the final business meeting of the semester, one senator was sworn into a new role, two students were appointed to the Senate, two to the Judiciary and four were appointed into the cabinet.

Voter guide: primary elections are underway

During early voting, registered voters can go to any polling place in their district to vote until May 14. On election day this is not the case and voters should go to their registered polling place. Registered voters can also send in an absentee ballot until May 10.

Trevor Molin elected as Elon University SGA speaker of the senate

Based on SGA’s new constitution, the speaker of the senate is now an internally elected position. Molin was nominated for the position by Class of 2025 Senator Bo Dalrymple and with a vote of 17 to 0, Molin was appointed.

President Joe Biden visits Greensboro, North Carolina A&T

President Biden addressed a crowd of about 300 in Greensboro today at the Alumni-Foundation Event Center on North Carolina A&T State University’s campus. Biden’s trip to Greensboro today is his third time in North Carolina since he was elected.

Town of Elon Board of Aldermen special meeting about Aspen Avenue postponed

Eighteen town of Elon residents came to the meeting to show their support for closing the road. Elon residents expressed discontentment about Aspen Avenue being used as the main entrance of the new Owen Park Subdivision in Gibsonville last week, as well, at the board’s work session.

Nadine Jose elected Elon University student body president

Nadine Jose has been elected Elon University’s student body president with 55% of the votes. The results are final with 1,817 votes cast in this year’s election. Jose this year has served as the School of Communications senator and previously as a campus programs senator.

Citizens speak against Aspen Avenue construction

At the Board of Alderman work session on March 28, Aldermen discussed a resolution about the Aspen Avenue development, a new solid waste and recycling contract, and a public hearing for a rezoning request. The board has also transitioned to a new schedule and will meet on the second Tuesday and the fourth Monday each month.

Elon University Student Government Association student body president candidates vie for votes

Out of 44 seats available and 18 races for SGA, there are two contested races this spring. Last year, out of the 38 SGA elected positions, there were four vacancies and 12 uncontested positions.
