Elon University baseball team loses season opener against Fairfield

Elon continues its season opening nine-game homestand on Friday, Feb. 18 with a pair of games against the Providence University Friars.
Elon will play Hofstra again on Feb. 24 in Hempstead, New York. The Phoenix continues its three game homestand on Thursday, Feb. 17 against the University of Delaware Blue Hens. The game at Schar Center will begin at 7 p.m.
Elon returns home on Feb. 18 to play Hofstra University Pride at the Schar Center. The Phoenix will look to extend its winning streak to three against the Pride, who currently rank ninth place in the conference standings.
Elon will get 12 days off before its next game against Vanderbilt University on Feb. 25 at Rudd Field.
Elon looks to stay undefeated Sunday against the Appalachian State University Mountaineers. The game at Hunt Park will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m.
The Phoenix drop to 8-18 on the season and 5-8 in the conference. Elon returns home to play the Hofstra University Pride on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at the Schar Center, a game that was rescheduled from New Year’s Eve. The Phoenix will look to bounce back against the Pride, as they look to build some momentum heading into the conference tournament in March.
Head coach Josh Hexter said for the team’s upcoming game on Sunday against Duke University at home, the team will focus on improving its defensive game.
Elon will look to build on its opening day success tomorrow with a pair of games at Hunt Park. The Phoenix will play IUPUI again at 12 p.m. and will take on Saint Francis University at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Next, the Phoenix travel to Towson University. Tip off is at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, after which the Phoenix will return home for its final stretch of home games this season.
