On the heels of its highest ranking in program history, the No. 8 Elon University men’s soccer team lost for the first time in 2015, losing 3-1 to the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. A second half brace from junior midfielder Danny Deakin sank the Phoenix after senior midfielder Eduardo Alvarez leveled the match at one apiece in the 50th minute. The win drops Elon to 7-1, while the win brings South Carolina to 4-2-1. The Phoenix’s first chance of the game came from a shot by senior midfielder Miguel Salazar in the fifth minute, but his effort from the top of the box was blocked by the Gamecocks defense.

Through 84 minutes, all signs pointed to an easy victory for the Elon Women's soccer team, who were beating the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 3-0. Six minutes and a few goals later, Elon left victorious, defeating the 49ers 4-2 Friday night at Rudd Field. The Phoenix had successfully stifled the Charlotte attack for most of the match, scoring a goal in the first half and tacking on two more before the onslaught of goals to end the match.
While the Elon University football team lost the lead late in the fourth quarter, they’ll be looking back at the first half for an abundance of missed scoring chances against North Carolina A&T State University. Elon started its first five drives from its own 47 yard line, NC A&T’s 45 and its own 46, 45 and 40 yard lines. While the Phoenix reached Aggie territory in four of those five drives, it came away with no points. “We had a couple missed opportunities in the first half,” said head coach Rich Skrosky.
