Students learn how to invest their money

Retirement is a long way off for Elon students, but some have already started planning by investing in the stock market. "I like to call it sophisticated gambling," said senior business fellow, Matt Feldman," so you never know what's going to happen." Feldman learned about the stock market during his sophomore year of high school, when he and a friend participated in a DECA stock competition. "We saw that everyone was buying these things called iPods and that a company called Apple produced them," Feldman said.

Challenging Winter Term Courses

Winter term offers diversity in both classes and experiences. Some students study abroad during the three-week term, while others choose to stay at Elon and take classes such as Hogwarts for Muggles, or Films of Woody Allen.

Elon's Miracle Child

On April 12th Elon put on one of the biggest events of the year, Elonthon. Every year, miracle children and their families share their stories at the 24-hour dance marathon. "The only money that's raised is what you're doing," said Steve Martinelli, a father of a Duke Children's Hospital former patient.

Mill Point Problems

The Station at Mill Point has been advertised as an upscale apartment complex on a college campus but some students living at the Station say the buildings were not ready to house students on move-in day. "I actually had a person last week, they were putting an eye-hole, like a seeing hole on my door," said Joshua McGee, a resident at Mill Point.

Native American Student Association promotes change, community

A primary goal for the Native American Student Association has been to develop more of a long-term relationship between Elon and the Occaneechi Band. However, the first step of this is to educate and unite Indigenous and non-Indigenous students across Elon, which begins with the organization’s meetings. NASA held “Crafting in the Commons” on Nov. 4 in Global Commons, which was one of three planned events to celebrate the month of November as Native American Heritage Month. The organization will host “Soil to Soul: Indigenous Planting” on Nov. 15 from noon to 2 p.m. in Moseley 221.

Elon Votes expands efforts to close voter participation gap on campus

Senior Bo Dalrymple said he has felt a different, more positive energy on campus this year regarding politics and civic engagement. The midterm elections voter rate across all institutions was 30.6% and Elon’s was 25% — 3.3% less than in 2018, according to data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement. As co-coordinator for Elon Votes, Dalrymple said the organization has been working to increase the voter rate on campus and reach students politically who might be less likely to seek out civic engagement.
