Elon freshman flies high above the ground

Most college students don’t have the necessary training or ambition to join Cirque du Soleil. But Elon University freshman Sophia Koh is not an average college student - she’s also an acrobat. Koh became interested in acrobatics when she was eight years old, at a summer camp that had a trapeze.

ABAN teaches Ghana to make something out of nothing

A Ban Against Neglect (ABAN) is already an up-and-coming charitable organization, but now, it’s gaining a stronger presence at Elon as well. The organization was founded in 2008 by three students at the University of Ghana: Callie Brauel, Rebecca Brandt and Emmanuel Quarmyne.

Come one, come all

A Elon alumna is at the forefront of the vaudeville movement, which is making a comeback from its glory days of the last century. Amanda Hulon-Coyle, under the stage name Virginia Scare, is the founder of The VaudeVillian Revue, a neo-vaudeville and burlesque troupe that played its first show in Raleigh in November 2011. "The VaudeVillian Revue pays homage to the history of vaudeville stylistically, and by occasionally reprising classic acts," she said.

Creating local fairytales

Zeta Phi Beta sorority is putting a twist on a classic story with its Cinderella Project. By collecting prom dresses for young women in the Burlington community who may not be able to afford one on their own, the sorority is helping create a fairytale for more than 150 high school girls.
