Injury plagued Elon University lacrosse player’s life outside the sport

Graduating senior lacrosse defensive player Cassidy Creighton has now walked across the stage in Schar Center, but the path to get there wasn’t easy. Creighton went through multiple injuries, playing in only eight games with the Phoenix over four seasons. But fighting through these injuries is what Creighton said will help propel her in her future.

3 Elon University baseball pitchers to play in Cape Cod Baseball League this summer

The Cape Cod Baseball League has served as a stepping stone for collegiate athletes looking to make their way to Major League Baseball. This summer, Elon University baseball will continue its tradition of sending players up to this high level playing environment with three pitchers – sophomore Shea Sprague, junior Ben Simon and redshirt junior Joe Savino. The pitching trio have signed contracts to play with the Harwich Mariners for the 2023 season.

Fire department to receive upgrade on ladder truck

When the town of Elon Fire Department receives an emergency call, the first vehicle sent to the scene is always its almost 18-year-old ladder truck. But the ladder truck, which has a life cycle of 20 years, is quickly approaching its expiration date, and Assistant Fire Chief Charles Walker said it's time for an upgrade.

Olivia Archer inks her name in the Elon University women’s tennis record books

In her record breaking day, Olivia Archer set foot on court No. 6 of the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center to start her match against her opponent. Archer had been keeping a close eye on the all-time career singles wins record set by Frida Jansaker ’14 almost a decade ago. Jansaker was a part of the Elon University women’s tennis team from 2011-14 after joining the team from Sweden.

Elon University softball steals series win from University of North Carolina, Wilmington

The Elon University softball team entered Hunt Softball Park to face the University of North Carolina, Wilmington Seahawks in the rubber match of the three-game weekend series. After splitting the doubleheader yesterday, the Phoenix came in hungry and ready to play, defeating the Seahawks 7-5 in comeback fashion. Head coach Kathy Bocock said she knew this was an important weekend for the team.

Elon University football team works with Be The Match

This is the fifth annual drive Elon’s football team has helped with. Elon community members were also able to sign up via a QR-code to become a donor. Once signed up, participants swabbed their cheeks and submitted the samples. If a participant is selected as a match, they will receive further instructions on what to do next.

Elon University softball completes win for Strike Out Cancer

In its annual Strike Out Cancer game, the Elon University softball team faced another conference opponent in Towson for the rubber match of the three-game series and defeated the Tigers 12-4 in five innings. The game started off with a ceremonial first pitch by breast cancer survivor Ashanti Marshall, representing the Burlington-based nonprofit Little Pink Houses of Hope.

Elon volleyball prepares for season against new opponents

Elon women’s volleyball returns to Schar Center following a historic season that ended in a trip to the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association championship. The Phoenix lost to Towson University but will return this year facing new opponents in the CAA, including Hampton University, North Carolina A&T University and Stony Brook University.
