Asian business, residents grapple with pandemic discrimination

The coronavirus pandemic has drastically changed the way many local businesses operate. In a study conducted by Business Wire in October 2020, 43% of small to mid-sized businesses in the United States reported significant or severe impact since the beginning of the virus, resulting in layoffs and closures. For Asian businesses, the economic hardships of the pandemic has an added layer.

Elon businesses brace for North Carolina’s modified stay-at-home order

The executive order follows consistent record breaking numbers of COVID-19 cases in the state and country. There have been an estimated 423,623 total cases in North Carolina as of Dec. 11, and cases in the state have broken single-day records on three separate days within the past week, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Elon cans composting due to pandemic precautions

Only single-use containers are being used on campus this semester, as well as in the dining halls, as an effort to minimize the risk of transmitting COVID-19. Post-consumer compostable waste, such as used to-go boxes, is not currently being composted this fall semester due to challenges coming from COVID-19, according to the Elon sustainability website.

Students identify issues important to college age voters

This will be the first election many college students will cast a ballot in, and it’s widely considered a monumental election for other reasons as well. As tensions across the country remain high from the COVID-19 pandemic, other concerns regarding Black Lives Matter protests and health care affordability during the pandemic are also defining issues voters currently face.
